I'm doing a run on King, which I have fairly limited experience with, and have been playing around with various Wonder options. It's incredibly frustrating how much cheating happens in this game. With just the +30% mod I'm still hitting modern consistently in the late 1700's to early 1800's Speaking of mods, is there one that limits era advancement until all techs in an era are researched? That, coupled with a +30% research requirement for techs should put the modern era around 1900 on prince/epic for me. Barbs are still annoying in the late game, but at least they still do something when killed. Or my favorite solution is to download a mod that removes the xp limit from barbs but halves the xp gained. It usually doesn't take much more than 6 or 7 scouts at a max to keep everything visible near you, and barbs are much less likely to spawn in visible terrain. Use scouts, have them kill barbs to get 2 levels and take +1 visibility each time, and then set them on hills to keep the explored territory visible. So I wind up with a scattered empire, because you can't raze capitals. Which I never do, because there are only a handful of worthwhile sites. Yeah, barbarians are an annoyance because they largely just punish non-wide Domination runs. I was three parts into a science victory when I pulled a diplomatic coup 'cause I wanted the game to be over. In the end I only lost the tech lead once and it was brief. Rock of Gibraltar was a nice boost to a water city that had only 3 workable land tiles. That was on top of whatever luxury was present when I picked the city. Had a lot of early silver and marble to trade which helped, and then when I branched out I got cloves, nutmeg, and pepper as my unique luxuries. Jakarta ended up being a powerhouse city early on and I dominated in tech and wonders thanks to great library+national college early. I was playing on high seas so my little continent that I luckily got to my self had a lot of hills. My religion was nothing compared to the Iroquois who blanketed the earth with protestantism. Extra resources are great and the Candi building is excellent in every regard. Need enough other continents to make it worth your while. Indonesia is pretty awesome with the right map. I've started with England three or four times and never finished so I was glad to knock that one out. Finished a couple games that I really enjoyed.
